Work Experience

The MFB offers work experience placements to year 10 secondary school students.

Students should note that the positions offered are primarily of an administrative nature in our corporate departments - students are unable to undertake work experience at fire stations or on firefighting activities.

Work experience is available in the following fields:

  • administrative (located in East Melbourne and Burnley)
  • mechanical (located in Thornbury)
  • computer (located at Burnley)

Positions in these areas are limited and only made available to students with a genuine interest in one of the above fields.

How to apply

Interested students are required to write a letter detailing:

  • why they are interested in participating in work experience at the MFB
  • department/area of interest (i.e. working in our Mechanical Engineering workshop)
  • work experience dates required (due to the high volume of requests, students will be placed for a maximum of one week in corporate areas and up to two weeks in our mechanical engineering workshop)
