7. Physical fitness and firefighting aptitude test

The MFB Physical Fitness and Firefighting Aptitude Tests have been designed to simulate actual duties on the fire ground.

The tests require that applicants be physically fit to be successful and consist of:

  • Physical Fitness Test (Multi-stage Shuttle Run)
    • Must achieve a level of 9.6
  • Firefighting Aptitude Tests
    • Part 1:  Ladder climb
    • Part 2:  Firefighting Task Course

These guidelines are designed to assist applicants to physically prepare for the tests. Other fitness programs can be used.

Applicants who use any of the exercise training programs in this guide, should get a medical clearance from a doctor before commencing.

Applicants can obtain a copy of the Physical Fitness (Shuttle Run) test on CD from the Australian Sports Commission Publications service at www.ausport.gov.au
