6. Pre-employment Medical
Applicants are required to meet the MFB standards of medical fitness for firefighters and complete a drug screen in accordance with the MFB drug policy.
Prior to attempting the physical stages of the selection process, all applicants are required to undertake a comprehensive pre-employment medical examination with the Brigade’s Medical Officer.
The medical is designed to determine an applicant’s ability to undertake the physical tests and identify any condition/s that may prevent or hinder the applicant from effectively carrying out the duties of a firefighter which may place the individual, colleagues or others at risk.
Conditions, including by not limited to asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, hearing or eyesight disorders (including colour blindness) may result in you being deemed unfit to undertake firefighting duties.
