1. Minimum Entry Requirements

An applicant seeking employment with the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, as a firefigter must be either:

  • An Australian citizen - a birth certificate, citizenship certficate or current passport is required as proof of eligibility
  • A permanent resident of Australia
  • A New Zealand citizen who has entered Australia on a valid passport

AND

  • Hold a current drivers licence (manual or automatic and interstate/international drivers licence's are accepted).

Probationary licences are also acceptable.  A Heavy Rigid driver’s licence is not required.

Please note, applicants must comply with the minimum entry requirements prior to submitting an application. 

Any applicant that does not meet the minimum entry requirements should wait until they are eligible to before lodging an application.

Age Restrictions

The MFB is an Equal Opportunity Employer and therefore, other than being old enough to hold a driver’s licence, applicants of any age who consider themselves suitably skilled are welcome to apply.

Educational Prerequisites

VCE or other educational prerequisites are not required for applicants to be eligible to submit an application.  The selection process is designed to objectively determine an applicant’s suitability for the role of firefighter.
