22 Oct 2018
MFB firefighters have swiftly brought a van fire in the Burnley Tunnel under control.

Crews were called to the outbound Burnley Street exit just before noon and arrived on scene in just 5 minutes to find an armoured van alight.

Thankfully, both occupants evacuated the vehicle safely and there were no reports of injury.

Crews made access to the fire, and despite heavy congestion in the tunnel the blaze was brought under control by 12:07pm.

Approximately 20 Firefighters then worked to remove the van from the tunnel so that traffic flow could resume. Despite this there was some disruption to traffic as the tunnel was closed during the incident.

At the peak of the fire there were five MFB appliances on scene, with assistance from Victoria Police, and Ambulance Victoria.
