26 Feb 2020
MFB firefighters have prevented the spread of a unit fire that broke out in Maribyrnong on Wednesday night after being alerted by a resident in the area.

The fire broke out at a property on Birdwood Street just after 9pm. Crews arrived on scene within five minutes to find the rear of the unit well alight and requested additional resources.
Firefighters launched an internal attack on the blaze and were able to quickly knock down the fire. The incident was deemed under control within 20 minutes of the Triple Zero ‘000’ call.

Thankfully the occupants of the unit were not home at the time and the surrounding occupants self-evacuated before firefighters arrived.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
