MFB received several Triple Zero ‘000’ calls for a unit fire in Footscray just before 5am this morning

One of the callers stated a resident had mobility issues and was having difficulty evacuating the premises.

Crews arrived in a matter of minutes to the single storey unit on Latrobe Street and immediately assisted two elderly women out of the property.

Firefighters quickly contained the fire to the garage area and rear pergola. No further damage was caused to the property.

The incident was under control within five minutes of the first appliance arriving at the scene.

The fire was deemed suspicious and has been handed over to Victoria Police for investigation.
