A man and woman have died in a Deer Park house fire overnight.

MFB was called to the Deer Street, Deer Park, unit fire at 12.43am.

Seven MFB appliances at two CFA crews attended the scene.

On arrival, firefighters were confronted with a fire totally involving a single storey, two bedroom, brick unit.

Unfortunately one male and one female were located deceased inside the burnt out unit.

Two people managed to self-evacuate the premises through a smashed window. They are being treated in hospital.

The blaze was under control in 20 minutes and breathing apparatus was in operation.

MFB’s Fire Investigation Unit and police are investigating the cause of the fire.

A working smoke alarm alerted neighbours to the fire.
