Trench rescue in Epping

A number of firefighters and specialist units are involved in a rescue operation after two men because trapped underground in Epping.

Crews were alerted to the incident in High Street at 11:50am after reports that two men were trapped approximately three meters underground and surrounded by dirt.

MFB trench rescue specialists are working alongside an Ambulance Victoria trench rescue operator to free both men.  

Paramedics are also in attendance monitoring the welfare of the two men. 

UPDATE: Rescuing the two men was a complex operation, but firefighters and trench rescue specialists managed to bring the men to safety. One man was retrieved at 2:04pm and the other was retrieved at 2:34pm. Both men were placed into the care of Ambulance Victoria.
