Firefighters are currently on scene in Thomastown where fire has engulfed a factory.

Crews arrived at the Lipton drive address just before 7pm and arrived to find flames and thick smoke issuing from the roof.

Rescue crews cut into the building to allow firefighters in breathing apparatus access to attack the fire internally.

The fire was declared under control within 30 minutes.

It appears no one was inside the factory at the time.

The cause of the blaze will be investigated.
