19 May 2015
Firefighters are battling a factory fire in Thomastown.

Crews were called to the Commercial Drive building at 12.46pm.

The brick factory measuring approximately 15 metres by 25 metres was fully involved on arrival and fire had penetrated the roof.

All persons have been evacuated from the factory. The fire has been confined to the factory.  Foam is being used to extinguish the fire.

A community warning has been issued due to thick black smoke in the area.

The incident was deemed under control about 2pm.

Firefighters managed to contain the fire to the factory of origin despite the close proximity of neighbouring factories.  The building company factory was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and neighbouring factories were evacuated as a precaution.

The fire was brought under control in 80 minutes and we currently have approx. 30 firefighters on scene extinguishing the remaining hot spots.

A cause for the fire is currently undetermined and under investigation.
