Family of six safely evacuated

Just before 9pm last night, MFB received calls to a house fire in Mirams Street, Ascot Vale.

Arriving on scene crews found the rear of the single storey brick veneer home fully involved in fire.

The family of six had safely evacuated the premises before firefighters arrived and an adjacent block of flats was also evacuated due to its close proximity to the fire and the thick smoke.

The fire took 25 minutes to bring under control and firefighters remained on scene overnight to continue to extinguish hot spots and maintain fire duties.

There is significant fire and water damage throughout the house and the family will be relocated.

Police and MFB Fire Investigators are investigating the cause of the fire.

Seven appliances and twenty five firefighters tackled the blaze.
