14 Oct 2012
An unoccupied single-storey weatherboard house in Caulfield North has been extensively damaged by fire.

The house in Norwood Road appears to have not been lived in for some time with many of the windows boarded up and both power and gas services disconnected.

As MFB crews arrived on scene, the fire already had a firm hold and was threatening to spread to nearby properties.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze and brought the fire under control in 25 minutes.   Crews working in breathing apparatus had to remove several iron sheets from the roof to enable them to gain access to ceiling cavity and ensure the fire was properly extinguished.

The damage bill has been estimated at more than $200,000 and police have been notified due to the suspicious nature of the blaze.

Approximately 22 firefighters attended.
