The blaze in the single-storey brick veneer premises in Baan Close, Fawkner was reported shortly after 3pm with the fire starting in the living room before spreading to the roof and rooms to the rear.

Seven MFB appliances and 22 firefighters from Broadmeadows, Pascoe Vale and Thomastown stations were in attendance and brought the fire under control in 20 minutes.  The front half of the property escaped the flames but was nevertheless damaged by heat and smoke.
