Sunshine North Factory Fire - Media Release

08 Apr 2012
The MFB responded to a factory fire early this morning and found the 50m x 40m building totally involved. Buildings on either side were also at considerable risk.

One of those buildings contained transport vehicles worth several million dollars.

Aggressive firefighting tactics managed to contain the blaze to the building of origin despite a large number of gas cylinders exploding in the intense heat.  Community warnings were issued to the media and the internet advising people in the area to keep airconditioners turned off and windows closed.
The fire took 1hr & 50 mins to control, but crews will be involved for most of the day to ensure the fire is completely extinguished.

The repair bill is expected to run into the millions of dollars and due to the extent of the damage, it will be some time before a cause can be established.
No persons were injured during the firefighting operations.
