Smoke billows from Box Hill house fire

A Box Hill home has been damaged by fire with flames seen shooting through the roof.

Firefighters were called to the Harrison Street home at 10.02am.

On arrival they found the single storey, weatherboard home ablaze with thick black smoke issuing through the roof.

The fire began at the rear of the property and threatened neighbouring homes.

Firefighters successfully stopped the fire from spreading, saving the properties on either side of the house.

The fire was deemed under control in 40 minutes.
