Smoke alarms save lives in Mont Albert

23 Oct 2016
Working smoke alarms have saved the lives of an elderly couple and their grandson, after a fire ripped through their Mont Albert home overnight.

The trio were sleeping when the fire began but were woken by the alarms which alerted them to the danger.
This gave the adults time to run upstairs and safely evacuate their nine year-old grandson.
MFB firefighters arrived at the Sewell Street premises about 12.30am and began aggressively attacking the flames from inside.
They managed to contain the fire to the house and protect adjoining properties.
The blaze was under control within 50 minutes.
MFB fire investigators will investigate the cause.
