The sound of a working smoke alarm has limited a fire spreading to neighbouring properties in Windsor on Sunday morning.

MFB firefighters were called to the property at David Lane just after 12:30am after a neighbour heard the smoke alarm beeping and reported smoke and flames coming from the unit.

The first crew arrived in less than four minutes and immediately began to formulate a plan of attack.  There was difficulties accessing the fire in the upper level and in the roof space of the unit but firefighters donned in breathing apparatus were able to bring the fire under control in 36 minutes.

Thankfully no one was home at the time of the incident.

The cause of the blaze is not known and will be investigated.
