Smoke alarm alerts Croydon pair to bedroom fire

A mother and her son were lucky to escape a house fire thanks to their working smoke alarm.

The installed smoke detector alerted the residents to a fire in the bedroom of their Bambra St Croydon residence.

Shortly before 7.30am, the son was having breakfast when the smoke alarm began to sound.

He quickly woke his mother and the two escaped from the home.

On arrival, fire crews contained the fire to the bedroom of the house.

The fire is under investigation by the Fire Investigation Unit and the cause is believed to be electrical.

Approximate damage is $100,000. Breathing apparatus was in use.

The fire took 20 mins to bring under control.
