MFB firefighters made quick work to extinguish a blaze that broke out at a metal recycling yard this afternoon.

Crews were alerted to the property at Boundary Road just after 2:30pm after reports of a significant amount of smoke coming from the rear yard.

The fire had started in a pile of metal approximately 20m x 20m in size. More than 25 fireifghters were able to contain the blaze and protect surrounding properties.

The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes. Firefighters will remain on scene into the evening as they work to extinguish any hot spots.

All workers at the property were evacuated and there are no injuries.

The cause of the blaze is unknown at this stage.
