A Richmond restaurant has suffered extensive damage after a fire broke out late Saturday morning.

MFB firefighters were called to the property on Bridge Road just before 11:30am and arrived in three minutes after the initial Triple Zero call.

Crews were confronted with a two storey combined restaurant and residence producing a significant amount of flames and smoke. More than 25 firefighters worked successfully to contain the fire to the restaurant area of the property.

One person self-evacuated from the restaurant whilst another individual was rescued from the upper residential area by firefighters. Both were assessed by Ambulance Victoria paramedics on scene.

The quick work of firefighters brought the blaze under control after 30 minutes.

The fire originated in the restaurant area of the building and was deemed accidental.
