Richmond apartment damaged by blaze

A Richmond apartment has been damaged after an afternoon fire.

Firefighters were called to the ground-floor apartment on Burnley Street at 5.06pm.

On arrival they found thick black smoke issuing from the property. It’s not believed anyone was home at the time of the fire.

The apartment complex has approximately 10 units over two storeys.

The fire was brought under control in about half an hour.

Burnley Street between Swan Street and Bridge Road was closed to traffic while firefighters battled the blaze.

Seven fire trucks attended the incident. 

The cause has not yet been determined and Fire Investigators have been asked to attend.
