06 Mar 2020
More than 30 firefighters were responded to Sydenham just before 4pm after a restaurant caught alight.

Initial crews arrived to the Kings Road restaurant within five minutes following several calls to Triple Zero (000).

They were met with a fire that had penetrated the roof space of a 10 x 20m building.

Wearing breathing apparatus for protection from the smoke, firefighters quickly commenced an attack on the fire in a bid to get it under control.

Crews then commenced checking adjoining shops to ensure the fire did not spread.

Their efforts ensured the fire was brought under control by 4:25pm, less than forty minutes after the first emergency call.

At this stage it’s not clear what caused the blaze to start but the scene will be investigated.

At the height of the fire there were seven firefighting appliances in attendance including a rescue and an aerial unit, in addition to three other support units and CFA units.

Ambulance Victoria was on scene to monitor the health of firefighters.
