Residents evacuated after high rise balcony fire in CBD

Residents were evacuated following an early morning fire in the CBD today.

MFB firefighters were called to a high rise apartment block in Latrobe Street at 4am after a security guard spotted flames and raised the alarm.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and located the fire on a balcony 28 floors up.

A large number of residents were evacuated as a precaution while the fire was extinguished.

The cause of the incident is being investigated.
