MFB and CFA firefighters managed to extinguish a house fire that ripped through a Laverton home early Friday morning.

Approximately 30 firefighters were called to the house on Alma Avenue after a neighbour called Triple Zero (000) to report the fire just after 7am.

Firefighters arrived on scene in six minutes to find the rear of the house well alight and extending in to the roof.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters gained access and prevented the fire from spreading, bringing it under control within 35 minutes.

Fortunately the owner of the house evacuated and was assessed by paramedics at the scene.

Specialist firefighters are working to determine the cause of the fire.
