28 Dec 2018
MFB crews were alerted to a fire thanks to a Triple Zero (000) caller who sighted smoke and flames at the rear of a property at Murray Street in Sunshine West.

The first firefighting crew arrived on scene in less than seven minutes and located a large shed, gazebo and storage area on fire at the rear of a single storey brick home. There was difficulties accessing the fire and it was threatening the home and properties on either side.

Firefighters immediately evacuated all occupants and worked quickly to protect the surrounding homes.

More than 20 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus battled the blaze and brought it under control in 30 minutes. The fire was contained to the rear of the property but the single story brick home has suffered smoke damage.

One elderly person was assessed by paramedics for smoke inhalation and there were no other injuries reported.

At this stage, the cause of the fire is not known. MFB’s Fire Investigators are currently working to determine a cause.
