MFB firefighters were alerted to a fire in Beaumaris at 10:30am following reports of smoke and flames coming from a house on Pellatt Street.

Crews arrived to the scene in less than five minutes and were met with a garage at the front of a two storey home fully alight.

Despite limited access to the property, firefighters managed to put down hose lines in an effort to prevent the blaze from overtaking the house.

The quick work of crews contained the fire to the garage and the incident was given the under control status at 10:49am.

Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to confirm that the fire had not spread to the rest of the property. They will remain on scene to carry out fire duties and ensure the fire is completely extinguished.

Fortunately the occupants had self-evacuated prior to MFB's arrival.

At the height of the fire there were a total of 10 appliances at the scene including pumpers, a rescue, an aerial unit and a command unit.

Firefighters believe the cause of the blaze was electrical in nature.
