An electrical fault has been determined as the cause of a fire which ripped through a Fitzroy pub in the early hours of this morning.

Crews were called to the premises on Brunswick Street just after 1am and arrived to find flames issuing from the second floor windows.

A thorough search of the building was conducted but luckily, no one was inside at the time.

Firefighters were able to quickly gain the upper hand with the fire under control in approximately 25 minutes.

MFB Fire Investigators attended the scene this morning to investigate and have determined that an electrical fault in a power point was to blame.

Police and paramedics also attended the incident.
