A chip fryer has been determined as the cause of a fire which ripped through a Preston café in the early hours of this morning.

MFB firefighters were called to the premises on High Street just before 5am after a passer-by spotted flames at the rear of the building.

Crews managed to contain the blaze to the rear area and got it under control within 40 minutes.

Specialist Fire Investigators were deployed at first light to examine the scene.

They determined a chip fryer left on overnight sparked the fire, causing significant damage to the rear of the café.

Luckily, no one was inside at the time of the incident.
