An off-duty firefighter raised the alarm after spotting a shed fire in Altona North this evening.

The firefighter saw flames issuing from The Circle house and called Triple Zero (000) just before 8pm.

MFB crews were quickly on scene and arrived to find the fire spreading from a garage to a shed at the premises.

It is believed that a candle left unattended sparked the blaze.

The incident was brought under control within 19 minutes.

A building inspector has been called to assess the structural integrity of the garage wall, which was extensively damaged by the fire.

Fortunately no one was injured and Victoria Police is on scene assisting with traffic control.
