No working smoke alarms at unit fire in St Albans.

The single story, two bedroom unit was already alight when firefighters arrived.

The front section including the contents has been severely damaged by fire while the remainder of the unit has been extensively damaged by heat and smoke.

Occupants of the unit were not home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire has been deemed to be of a suspicious nature and police are investigating.

Approximately 18 firefighters attended the fire.
