back to list
31 Jan 2011
Fire extensively damaged an upstairs function room and most of the roof structure of a three-storey nightclub in Auburn Pde Hawthorn East late last night.

Date: January 30, 2011
Time: 23:23 hours
Call Number 10224

Address:  Auburn Parade, Hawthorn East.

Firefighters arrived within minutes after smoke was reported issuing from the top floor widows and roof of Bar None, shortly after 11pm.  An aerial appliance was used to direct a powerful water spray from above as other crews used cutting gear to gain access into the locked club and begin an internal fire-fight.  Extensive smoke logging of the top floor hindered firefighting operations with crews having to rip down most of the ceiling to gain access to the fire.

The blaze took half an hour to bring under control.

The cause is possibly due to an electrical fault but a specialist investigator will attend in the morning to properly determine the cause.

Attending Appliances:

Pumpers: 6
Rescue units: 1
Aerial units: 1
Other Units: 1 (Breathing Apparatus support)

Number of firefighters: 30

Officer in charge: Commander Wayne Garrard
