MFB is pleased to announce Mr Dan Stephens has been appointed as our new Chief Officer/ Chief Executive Officer to steer the organisation into the future.

The appointment comes following an extensive international search to fill the newly created position that will align MFB with contemporary fire and emergency services organisations.

Mr Stephens brings with him a wealth of experience in firefighting and broader emergency services, and is currently the UK strategic lead for Fire and Rescue Service Operations and National Resilience.

He currently leads the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, where he has served as Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Officer for more than six years.

Mr Stephens has a longstanding commitment to the community, having served in the armed forces before embarking on a career of almost three decades in the Fire and Rescue Service.

In 2015, he was awarded the Queens Fire Service Medal (QFSM), one of the highest honours in the UK, for service to the Fire and Rescue Service.

Mr Stephens is expected to start in his new role in May 2018.

MFB Board President Jasmine Doak congratulated Mr Stephens on his appointment.

“I’m excited that MFB has been able to secure the services of someone who is an experienced operational leader and passionate about firefighting, the health and wellbeing of firefighters and employees and community safety.

“We look forward to welcoming him to MFB and working together in building an even stronger and more resilient MFB.”
