More than 50 firefighters responding to Broadmeadows tyre fire

Firefighters are responding to a large tyre pile fire in Broadmeadows.

Crews were called to the Maygar Boulevard property at 8.57am.

On arrival they found a large fire in a pile of tyres, measuring 120 by 30 metres. They fire has so far burned through approximately one third of the pile and is likely to burn for several hours.

The fire has issued thick black smoke, which can be seen from across Melbourne. A Communtiy Warning has been issued.

More than 15 fire trucks and specialist units, with around 50 firefighters are currently on scene.

There are no homes under threat as the incident is contained to an industrial area.

The cause is not yet known and the fire is not yet under control.
