More than 50 firefighters battle Broadmeadows factory fire

More than 50 firefighters battled a factory fire in Broadmeadows last night.

Just before 10pm MFB received several calls for a factory fire. On arrival firefighters requested extra crews due to visible smoke in the area.

The fire involved a chemical warehouse and manufacturing complex located on Camp Road, which consists of a number of buildings interlinked.

The fire was contained to one building measuring 50 metres by 25 metres.  MFB firefighters confined the fire to a section of this building and protected chemicals from the fire.

The damage to the complex is not known at this stage.

Crews used two aerial appliances to combat the fire from above.

The incident was deemed under control after an hour and 10 minutes.

The water run off from the fire may have mixed with some chemicals and the run off is being contained, firefighters were decontaminated before leaving the scene.

Fire investigators will attend the scene this morning.
