Extensive fire damage has been caused to the home of a family of six people this afternoon, with the contents and their personal possessions destroyed.

MFB were called to the property on Kingston Town Crescent in Mill Park at 12.17pm.

Once notifying 000, a neighbour attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose, but strong winds made this extremely difficult and dangerous.

Firefighters were soon on scene, and found the 2 storey brick house fully involved in fire.  The fire took 25 minutes to bring under control.  There have been no reported injuries and no-one was home at the time of the fire.

The fire appears to have started within the carport and quickly spread into the house.  A car and boat were also fire damaged.

MFB specialist fire investigators are currently on scene to determine the cause of the fire.  MFB firefighters and appliances will remain on scene late into the afternoon to complete fire duties.

Seven firefighting appliances, including a CFA unit from South Morang, attended the fire. Approximately 25 firefighters were on scene.
