One person was hospitalised with serious burns following the large fire yesterday at a metal recycling company in Campbellfield.
The scrap recycling and car removal business was fully engulfed with fire when MFB firefighters first arrived. The fire took firefighters 1 hour and 20 mins to bring under control.
Emergency warnings were placed due to the large, toxic, clouds of smoke that were heading over the northern suburbs and heading towards the city. Of particular concern was a large plume over the Campbellfield Shopping Centre. Fortunately this dispersed and no reported injuries occurred.
MFB firefighters remained on scene mopping up and continuing their fire duties. MFB Fire Investigators, Victoria Police and Worksafe are currently working together to determine the cause of the fire
Approximately 60 firefighters attended the fire.
