Cars, shops and apartments were damaged following a fire in Caulfield North this afternoon.
Firefighters responded to several calls for a fire in the car park under a building in Orrong Crescent just before 2pm.
The building is a three-storey apartment block with 15 apartments.
The fire was found to have started in a storage area in the car park and had spread to two parked late model motor vehicles. Extensive damage resulted to the vehicles and to the building pipe work and services located in the car park.
Smoke damage resulted to all apartments and to two shops on the ground floor with water damage to several apartments.
Six people were evacuated. The fire has been deemed suspicious and police are investigating. Damage is estimated at $500,000.
Breathing Apparatus was utilised and it took 20 firefighters 25 minutes to bring the fire under control.
