Approximately 30 firefighters were called to William Street in Preston after a fire in a unit on Thursday evening.

Firefighters arrived to the scene in five minutes and wearing breathing apparatus, attacked the exterior of the unit with water, before moving inside to knock down a fire in the unit's roof space.

Ten MFB crews brought the fire under control within 17 minutes, and their quick work prevented the fire from spreading to the neighbouring units in the block.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
