The Ivanhoe RSL has been destroyed by fire this morning.

Firefighters were called to the RSL at 6.37am after a local resident spotted the property alight.

The first fire truck on scene immediately requested additional fire trucks, due to the fire extending through the roof of the two storey brick structure.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus are doing an aggressive attack on the fire, which has now been declared under control in 52 minutes.

A neighbouring property has been evacuated due to them being elderly and disabled and placed in the care of ambulance for observation.

A Community Advice message was issued due to intense smoke in the area and traffic problems.

A cause has not been determined at this early stage and the structure has been severely damaged.
