A number of triple-zero calls were made following a unit fire in Montgomery Street in Maidstone overnight.

Callers stated flames were visible in the living room at the front of the unit.

On arrival MFB crews found a single-storey unit well involved in fire and requested additional support.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the burning structure and conducted a search for occupants.

The unit was unoccupied and condemned.

Firefighters used hose lines to protect surrounding properties from radiant heat and evacuated eight residents from a neighbouring property.

A community warning was issued for smoke in the area.

The fire was declared under control in 16 minutes.

At this stage a cause hasn't been determined.

Police and Ambulance also assisted MFB crews on scene.
