Diesel spill at Heidelberg hospital

Firefighters are currently at a Heidelberg hospital, following a diesel spill this afternoon.

It's believed the incident began when a mechanical malfunction in the pump room of the hospital rooftop caused approximately 700 litres of diesel to leak to the level below.

Firefighters were called to the premises, on Burgandy Street,about 12.15pm and remain on scene.

Crews are attempting to contain the spill and stop it from spreading further.

Patients have been relocated within the hospital.

The hospital is not accepting further patients until the situation is resolved.
