MFB received several calls for a boat on fire in the rear yard of a property.

Significant amounts of smoke from a fire in a fibreglass boat stored in the rear yard of a house in Pascoe Vale South on Friday night led to the MFB crews upgrading the call.

Early callers were concerned that adjoining properties were being threatened by the fire. The boundary fence sustained some damage and the house next door had minor damage caused by the radiant heat. Fifeteen MFB firefighters quickly knocked down the fire preventing further spread and brought the fire under control in 10 minutes.

The fibreglass half cabin boat sustained serious damage estimated at approximately $6,000.  The cause is believed to habe been fuel vapours ignited by an electrical fault.
