Firefighters discovered a deceased man in a house fire in St Albans this morning.

MFB crews were on scene within minutes of receiving the first call to the fire in Grantham Parade, St Albans, about 3.40am.

On arrival they found a single storey, brick veneer house fully engulfed in fire.

The fire was particularly aggressive and had burnt power lines off the fascia of the dwelling.  MFB firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, took 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Sadly a deceased male was located and another two people have been transported to hospital with smoke inhalation and minor burns.

The cause of the fire is unknown and will be investigated by MFB Investigators and the Police.

Council Building Surveyors have been requested to attend in the morning to check the structural integrity of the house.

In total seven MFB appliances, with approximately 25 firefighters were on scene.
