08 Dec 2017
Shortly after 7pm this evening MFB firefighters were called to a structure fire in Kew after several calls were made to triple zero.

Crews arrived on scene in less than six minutes, and on arrival found a single story weather board house with flames and smoke issuing from the rear.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters entered the building to conduct an internal search and confirmed no one was home.

The fire was declared under control after 45 minutes. Thanks to quick work by crews, the damage has been contained to a lean-to at the rear of the premises, and part of the roof space.

Due to wind there is lots of smoke nearby, some of which has drifted toward the Eastern Freeway. The community is advised to steer clear of the area and surrounding streets.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are on scene assisting MFB crews, who will remain at the site for some time.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
