Community warning issued due to smoke

Just before 4am this morning, MFB firefighters received a fire call to a shop fire in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.

Arriving on scene in six minutes, firefighters in breathing apparatus tackled the blaze, and MFB dispatched extra resources to assist as there were apartments above the shop, which was in a group of several at the location.

A community warning was also issued due to concerns regarding the amount of smoke in the area.

It took 30 firefighters an hour to bring the blaze under control and the shop was gutted by the fire. The damage bill is expected to exceed $250,000.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
