MFB HAZMAT crews investigate substance spill in Campbellfield

Approximately 30 Firefighters have responded to Barry Road in Campbellfield, after leaking barrels were found on a truck just before 9:10am.

 

Initial crews arriving on scene have found 12 barrels, which appeared to be leaking a substance.

MFB’s Specialist HAZMAT team and Scientific Advisor have been called to the scene to investigate and assist with identifying the substance.

Crews are expected to be on scene for some time.

Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, and the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) are assisting on scene.

Road closures are in place around Patrick Street and Barry Road.

The public is advised to avoid the area where possible.

 

UPDATE:

The incident was declared under control just after 3:20pm.

The unregistered vehicle will be taken into the possession of Victoria Police, who along with the EPA, will continue to investigate the owners of the truck.
