MFB firefighters and HAZMAT crews have responded to a factory fire in Thomastown after receiving several Triple Zero (000) calls just before 10am.

Crews arrived to the Industrial Avenue address and were met with plumes of thick black smoke issuing from the factory.

Wearing Breathing Apparatus firefighters entered the factory to ensure all occupants had evacuated, and quickly commenced an attack on the fire.

Approximately 60 occupants had safely evacuated the property prior to MFB’s arrival on scene.

Firefighters located the blaze in a dust extraction system in the factory, and took less than 50 minutes to bring it under control.

MFB HAZMAT crews initiated decontamination procedures and Ambulance Victoria paramedics are assisting on scene.

Firefighters remain on scene monitoring for hot spots and are working to ensure the fire is completely extinguished.

Victoria Police, WorkSafe, and the Environmental Protection Authority are also assisting on scene.
