MFB’s specialist High Angle Rescue Technicians (HART) have been deployed to a high rise on Exhibition Street where a dislodged sign is dangling high above the city street.

Specially trained HART teams were called at around 10am and worked to secure the canvas sign which was ripped apart due to the strong winds.

Firefighters abseiled down the side of the high rise and worked to remove the 6x4 metre sign and make the area safe.

Due to the weather was a complex operation, requiring a high level of skill from crews. Their efforts ensured the sign was secured by 12 noon.

Victoria Police have blocked off the area below the incident to ensure pedestrians and motorists in the city are not in danger.

At the peak of the incident there were MFB appliances and around 12 firefighters on scene.
