Lift fire in Carlton

Firefighters were called to Carlton this morning following a fire in the lift of an apartment building.

Crews arrived at the Elgin Street address just before 3.30am after being alerted by the building's fire alarm system.

A search of the building revealed burning rubbish in a lift on level 16.

The fire was under control in just over 30 minutes.

Police are investigating the incident.
